With the preseason now in the rearview mirror, it’s time to hand out the first report cards to the newest members of the NFL. While the limited snaps and simplified playbooks make a definitive judgment impossible, a player's performance during these exhibition games can offer a strong indication of their readiness for the professional game. From the top-tier quarterbacks to the explosive playmakers, here’s a look at how the most talked-about rookies from the 2025 draft class fared in their first taste of NFL action.

Top Performers: Ready to Make a Day 1 Impact

These rookies entered the league with high expectations and have more than lived up to the hype during the preseason. They’ve shown a maturity and skill level that suggest they are ready to be major contributors from the very first snap of the regular season.

Malik Nabers, WR, New York Giants

Grade: A

Malik Nabers has been nothing short of spectacular. He has displayed the elite speed, route-running, and pure playmaking ability that made him a top-five draft pick. Nabers has a clear rapport with his quarterback and has already established himself as the team’s undisputed No. 1 receiving threat. His preseason performance suggests he is in a class of his own.

Jayden Daniels, QB, Washington Commanders

Grade: A-

Jayden Daniels has done everything asked of him in the preseason. He showcased his dual-threat ability as a runner and passer, and most importantly, he has shown an excellent command of the Commanders' new offense. He has made his case to be the Week 1 starter, making smart decisions and showing an impressive understanding of the game.

Brock Bowers, TE, Las Vegas Raiders

Grade: A-

The Raiders’ new tight end, Brock Bowers, is proving to be the kind of mismatch nightmare everyone expected him to be. His ability to line up all over the field, combined with his fluid route running and strong hands, makes him a highly dangerous weapon. He has looked like a polished veteran, seamlessly integrating into the Raiders' offensive scheme and finding success against veteran defenders.

Solid Start: Room for Growth

These rookies have shown a solid foundation but have also had moments that remind us they are still developing their craft. Their preseason wasn't perfect, but it provided a positive glimpse into their potential.

Caleb Williams, QB, Chicago Bears

Grade: B+

The No. 1 overall pick had a classic rookie preseason—a mix of highs and lows. Caleb Williams showed flashes of his incredible arm talent and improvisational skills, especially in a key two-minute drill against the Chiefs. However, he also had moments of inconsistency, which is to be expected from a young quarterback. He has the potential to be a star, but his first few games will be a learning experience.

Rome Odunze, WR, Chicago Bears

Grade: B

As Caleb Williams's teammate, Rome Odunze has had a steady and reliable preseason. While he hasn't had the explosive plays of a player like Nabers, his consistent route running and ability to get open have earned him a solid grade. He has quickly developed a good connection with Williams and looks to be a key piece of the Bears' passing attack.

Needs Improvement: A Wake-up Call

This player is not a bust, but their preseason performance has left some room for concern. They will need to make significant strides before the regular season begins to earn a spot or a role on their team.

Joe Alt, OT, Los Angeles Chargers

Grade: C+

As a top-ten pick, Joe Alt had high expectations, but his preseason was a bit inconsistent. There were moments where he showed his elite athleticism and size, but he also had some struggles in pass protection against seasoned veterans. While he's likely to be a long-term starter, his first few games may come with some growing pains as he adjusts to the speed and power of the NFL.
